New England Folklore – a blog
2May 29, 2015 by Bret Kramer (aka WinstonP)
I hope to have a very exciting update this weekend for our Kickstarter backers, but I fear I’ve been neglecting this site. To tide you all over in the mean time, I thought I might suggest a great place to read all about all the weird New England folklore I’ve not had time to get to yet : Peter Muise’s blog “New England Folklore“.
The blog updates about once a week and covers topics that definitely range into the sweet spot of history and weirdness that is wherein the Arkham Gazette likes to dwell. Here are a few recent topics covered:
- The Moodus Noises
- Mary Toothaker and the Devil’s Protection
- The Ballad of Giles Corey
- The Ghosts of the Great Elm
By happenstance all of these topics connect in one way or another to witchcraft, though he’s covered other topics as well:
- Witchcraft (I had to start with it)
- Sea Serpents
- Ghosts
- UFOs
- Fairies
- H.P. Lovecraft
Muise has written a book on the subject – Legends and Lore of the North Shore – if you’d rather skip the digital version of things.

Thank you for mentioning my blog. It’s always great to connect with other Lovecraft and New England folklore fans!
