The Kingsport Bibliography (draft)
2March 1, 2016 by Bret Kramer (aka WinstonP)
This week I’m planning to reissue our call for submissions for future issues of the Arkham Gazette, in particular issue #4, which will be focused on Kingsport. I’ve put together a bibliography of Kingsport-related materials, first RPG products, and then fiction. This bibliography might possibly be of interest to readers, especially anyone considering writing something for our next issue, and so I’m sharing here on the SHP blog.
While I have reviewed all of the RPG materials (and am rereading them closely now for our annotated bibliography of Kingsport scenarios to be included in the next issue), I have definitely not read all, or even most, frankly, of the related fiction. I suspect that many of the stories named here simply name-check Kingsport, so to speak, in the tradition of what I term the “Mythos reference dump” all too common in Mythos fiction. If time allows, I’ll note the stories that are primarily set in Kingsport or otherwise relay some useful or interesting information about that town, as best my library permits.
Comments, amendments, and suggestions are most welcome. I will update this bibliography as I get better information – I strongly suspect I’ve missed stories post 1999. My primary fiction source was Chris Jarocha-Ernst’s excellent A Cthulhu Mythos Bibliography and Concordance (published in 1999, hence my recent blindspot); David and Scott T. Gousward’s Horror Guide to Massachusetts was of help as well.
Where possible I have linked to the item in question, for sale or free download in the case of role-playing game materials, or in the public domain (for Lovecraft’s stories). For fiction, I have only noted the story name and year first published and not the periodical (usually) or book they first appeared in – considering the frequency of reprinting with some Mythos stories, this should be enough to start looking for a particular story. In a few cases fiction in question is a poem; these are marked [P]. Items I have read I will mark with a †; those which do not describe Kingsport or some related element will be marked with a *.
Post a comment if you have an questions, correction, or additions!

Note- In two of August Derleth’s stories he mentions a port town called Kingston. There is a Kingston in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, which is a port, and North and South Kingstown in Rhode Island – it is unclear if he was referring to a real-world location or misidentified Kingsport.
There is another Scott David Aniolowksi scenario with a Kingsport component. “The Whore of Barharna”, published in Adventures in Arkham Country (1993, reprinted 1997), is set in the Dreamlands, but includes a visit to Kingsport in the Waking World as part of the plotline.
Ack! I had it in my master file but neglected to copy it over. Thanks for catching that!
