I selected this stone because I like the face of the “soul effigy/angel” in the tympanum and it was a good excuse to link to my visit to St. John’s Churchyard several years ago and all the gravestone photos I took then.

The monument for Ms. Haile (nee Ingraham) was carved by Seth Luthor, a Providence-area carver, who created this fine stone in the final years of his life.  Read more about him here, in an article from the the journal Rhode Island History from 1980.  The article includes a photo of this stone, which lets you see home much has eroded from the stone in twenty-five years.
